Can I install the sliding door myself?

Yes. You can follow the installation instructions if you are familiar with building things and you have some basic tools at hand (screwdriver, measurement tape, level/laser, drill, hammer, etc.).
However, if you are unsure about your skills or you are installing a special door, we recommend contacting a professional or us for our recommended partners who install sliding and folding doors.

Do I fix the sliding door to the wall or ceiling?

This depends on what type of sliding door you are looking for and the type of support structures on the wall or ceiling. If you want to install a traditional wall-sliding door, the sliding track can be installed on the wall on top of the doorway or the underside of the ceiling or embedded into the ceiling. Sliding pocket doors are typically installed by fixing them to the support structure inside the wall above the doorway. The sliding tracks of multiple sliding doors for storage rooms and industrial facilities are typically installed on the ceiling or, with regard to industrial buildings, for instance, the support beams. However, the most important thing is that the sliding track can be fixed to some type of support structure in multiple locations.

Can I install a bottom guide to a floor with underfloor heating?

Yes. The bottom guide screws for most series are only fixed to the surface material of the floor (parquet/laminate, etc.) while the underfloor heating pipes are deeper in the floor. However, you should always ensure that the pipes are not in the way of the screws. For example, electric underfloor heating membranes may be located directly underneath the surface material.

Can I embed a bottom guide track to the floor?

Bottom guide tracks can also be embedded directly to the floor. In this case, the bottom guide is installed at the bottom of the sliding door and the length of the bottom guide track is equal to the whole sliding distance in order to ensure that the bottom guide can be installed even in demanding environments. However, it is good to remember that the bottom guide track will remain in the floor, make the floor’s appearance less uniform and possibly accumulate dirt.

Can hangers be fixed to the bottom of the door?

All Helaform sliding track systems are top-hung, which means that we do not manufacture bottom-hung systems where the weight of the door is borne by hangers at the bottom.

Can the sliding tracks be shortened?

Yes. When you order a track, you can select to shorten the track as a service provided by Helaform. Customers can also shorten tracks with appropriate tools, but you need to remember to clear the metal dust generated by sawing the track carefully before installing in order to prevent the dust from entering the hangers.

Can sliding doors be lifted onto and off the track or do I need to slide the door into place at the end of the track?

Interior sliding doors

No need to slide the door into place. In most cases, the hangers are inside the track onto which the door can be lifted to attach it to the hangers with the fixing plates. As an exception, the hangers of the 30 and 40 series have fixed plates that are attached directly to the door, but these tracks are also open, allowing the door and its hangers to be lifted onto the track.

Storage and industrial sliding doors

This depends on what types of hangers are used. MPS hangers have hooks onto which the threaded rod fixed to the door frame is lifted and tightened. The threaded rod of MP hangers is fixed to the hanger that is inserted through the door frame and tightened with a bolt. If the door frame is cladded with corrugated sheets on both sides, the MP hangers are already fixed to the door, in which case the door must be slid into place at the end of the track.

Where can I find sliding door installation instructions and videos?

Series-specific installation instructions and videos can be found on our website in the Installation section. Instructional installation videos can also be found on our YouTube channel.

Can I install more than one door on a single sliding track?

Yes. The maximum weight capacity of a door refers to the maximum load on a pair of hangers, but the sliding track can bear much more weight. For example, bi-parting sliding doors
have two doors sliding in opposite directions on the same track.

Can I install more than two hangers on one door?

We strongly recommend avoiding this. Two hangers are always supplied per sliding door as the weight of the door is evenly distributed on two hangers. Three or even more hangers can cause friction inside the track and obstruct sliding or make one or more hangers elevated so that the sliding door does not run evenly on the track.
