Housing Fair Oulu 2025, Finland

The movable sunshade panels add both style and practical versatility to the balconies – light and shadow can be adjusted exactly the way you want

The 2025 Housing Fair project, Hietasaaren Lyhty, consists of three modern villas that bring new life to the area’s traditional villa culture. Breathable, wood fiber-insulated structures and wooden cladding emphasize natural materials, while architecture, light, and a sense of community come together in a harmonious whole.

All three villas feature sliding sunshade panels on the upper-floor balconies. Each balcony is equipped with two movable panels that can be slid side by side to adjust the amount of shade as needed. The panels’ frames are made of flat steel and covered with the same wooden slats that clad the villas’ façades. The sliding mechanism uses Helaform’s 75-series sliding track system, which withstands Finland’s variable weather conditions exceptionally well.

The result is a cohesive ensemble where tradition meets modernity, and every detail enhances the timeless beauty and functionality of Hietasaaren Lyhty. The design of the villas was carried out by architecht Jari Haapalahti, ARKJH.
